The commune of Tuzie is a 10min drive to the market town of Ruffec which has a train station, several supermarkets and a good selection of stores and other amenities. The covered market is in the centre of the town and market days are Wednesdays and Saturdays, please check opening hours.
There are many visitor attractions in the area including Abbaye Notre-Dame de Nanteuil and the fairy tale Chateau which sits majestically above the river in Verteuil sur Charente (one of France's "plus beaux villages"). With it's charming old mill, river walks, picnic area, park, bars and restaurants, it's a lovely outing and if you're lucky you may just catch a game of petanque.
The quiet roads are ideal for cycling and rambling and there are many popular cycling routes, walking paths, historic towns and pretty villages within easy access.
A 35min drive down the N10 brings you to the walled city of Angouleme, capital of the Charente department, where you can visit the Romanesque cathedral and other historic buildings and stroll along the winding streets with their many restaurants and shops.
You may enjoy a trip to Cognac to go boating on the river Charente, or visit one of the famous distilleries for a tour from their Visitor Centres. Only the wine spirit distilled in this region can be called "Cognac", however, there is more to Cognac than Cognac and it is well worth a visit!
The popular Theme park Futuroscope is a one hour drive away and the historic port of La Rochelle is in easy reach for a day out with the beach at Royan just along the coast.
Bordeaux is the sixth largest city in France and sits on the Garonne River. It is a port city and a world capital of wine production. With stunning architecture and public gardens which line the river quays, Bordeaux has everything you would expect in a city of this size.
